Real destination wedding in the Bahamas

When I heard about a bride who was getting away from it all and getting married in the tropics, I knew I wanted to hear everything about it – and to share all the details with you!

Amy and Jon are living in Australia and have family in England and the United States. When it came time to decide on a wedding location, they wanted something faraway and tropical, a place everyone could “meet in the middle” and relax and enjoy the celebration. The Bahamas it was!

Here are my favorite details from the event…

Destination WeddingBright shades of blue were the colors of the day – from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the cake accents and favors. Even Nassau, the town where the wedding was held, had bright blue accented houses to match the mood!

Amy chose a strapless, floaty dress for the beach wedding. A flower in her hair and pearl earrings were the only accents she needed to be the perfect beach bride.

Starfish designs accented not only the gorgeous wedding cake but also the personalized napkins and lidded favor boxes. These small details are perfect for a destination wedding because napkins and favor boxes are easy to order ahead of time and take up almost no room in the suitcase.

Dinner was outside under a grass-roofed shelter hung with billowing white curtains for tropical romance, and guests feasted on fresh local fish, shrimp and lobster. Fabric that matched the bridesmaids’ dresses was tied around the backs of the chairs to personalize the space and add a splash of color.

After the festivities were over and family and friends left, Amy and Jon spent another 10 days in the Bahamas for a relaxing honeymoon in paradise.

Congratulations, Amy and Jon! And thanks for letting me share your wedding with other Jean M brides.

Enjoy the destination wedding inspiration!

Jean M’s tips for a nature-lover’s wedding — Part 2

As promised, I’m back with more gorgeous ideas for an outdoor wedding that really blends in with nature! Check out my inspiration board and then start planning your own nature-inspired celebration.

Nature Inspired Wedding

When you’re dining al fresco, be prepared for what nature may “contribute” to your celebration in the form of busy breezes. I love the idea of having natural wood planks for tables — and actually nailing down the menu cards! This kind of tabletop also means you won’t have to worry about linens getting caught in the wind or glasses of icy lemonade leaving water rings.

No outdoor event is complete without having s’mores around a bonfire. An outdoor wedding should be no different! Offer up s’mores fixings in fun containers and create a station where guests can help themselves when the fire’s ready.

Get creative with your place cards and table number cards. Pin name tags to green apples and secure table numbers with wine corks tied with twine. Then fill your tables with candles – and wrap the votive holders in grasses for a unique touch. Scatter rocks, mosses and green flowers amid the candles and you’ve got natural elegance.

Accessorize with napkins printed with a natural design and add rustic touches (twine, ribbon, etc.) to things like your ring bearer pillow, flower girl basket and more. The finishing touch? A loose, hand-tied bouquet in shades of green – it will look like you picked them just before you walked down the aisle!

Enjoy the natural inspiration!

Jean M’s tips for a nature-lover’s wedding — Part 1

Outdoor weddings gain in popularity every year. And I love seeing the trend move from simply transplanting a formal wedding outside to really incorporating the elements of nature in the entire event. The dresses are more casual (organic cotton, perhaps?). The men wear suits or shirts and khaki pants instead of tuxedos. Rustic touches fill the décor.

Inspired by this trend, I’ve put together “A Wedding in the Woods” look in shades of green and brown to give you ideas for creating a wedding look that’s naturally beautiful. Just look at all the options you have for mixing, matching and coordinating!

Nature Inspired Wedding

Choose an invitation that’s simple and understated but still sets the tone for your wedding. Our Olive Layered Invitation with an espresso bottom layer says “natural elegance” without any unnecessary frills.

Then set to decorating! Use moss, greenery, branches, rough wood and rocks liberally throughout your décor. I love all-green bouquets and arrangements – just fill a tall, simple vase with moss and add in hydrangeas and flowers in other shades of green for a lush, woodsy look. Also use fruit and vegetables like green apples, avocados and artichokes stacked in flared bowls for texture and natural style.

Carry through the natural look with place cards printed with a design that coordinates with your theme (anchor the place cards with pretty rocks if it’s windy outside). If the weather’s warm, provide guests with favor fans attached to natural wooden handles and accented with ribbon, twigs and twine. And use the same accents on your favor boxes for coordination.

Want more woodsy wedding tips? Tune in Wednesday for Part 2. I guarantee you’ll love the inspiration!

Enjoy creating a natural look!

Jean M’s ideas for daisy centerpieces you’ll love!

There’s no other flower that’s more cheerful or sweet than a daisy. Daisies have gone far beyond the petal-plucking “He loves me…He loves me not” game and have become stylish accents for bridal showers, weddings and home decorating and entertaining alike.

While daisies look great even when they’re just placed in the simplest of vases, why not add a few extra touches to make the little flowers even sunnier?

Daisy Centerpieces

Daisy Centerpieces

When you have an all-daisy bouquet, opt for a unique vase to add pizzazz to your arrangement. We love the look of this low, square vase with the flower stems cut so that the heads just peek over the top. Add a bright yellow ribbon and a printed seal to the vase and you’ve got a lovely, personalized centerpiece.

Bring out the yellow centers of the daisies and add fresh, natural style to your arrangement by adding in lemons. Decorating with fresh fruit is all the rage for summer weddings, especially outdoor events when you’re serving lemonade and fruit desserts. To create this look, cut a slice into the bottom of each lemon and prop it on the edge of the vase. Then fill the center with tightly packed daisies for a sculptural effect. Again, yellow ribbon is the finishing touch on the vase.

Got another main flower in mind for your centerpieces? Daisies can act as the perfect accent, too! These gorgeous yellow tulips in a tall, fluted vase are accented with daisies tucked in around the rim.

Enjoy the cheerfulness!

Tips and ideas for your summer wedding.

This week, we’re sharing some great planning ideas for seasonal weddings. Today we’ll feature summer, Thursday will focus on fall and Friday will highlight winter. Get ready to celebrate your love AND the season of your wedding!

SUMMER is the time of year for picnics, beaches and barbecues. Nature is showing off her best colors and her best weather. It’s no wonder so many people plan summer weddings!

Head outdoors for your summer wedding

• Bright and beautiful colors are a must at summer weddings, but instead of splashing it everywhere, use small, strong accents of color as centerpieces with white or pale backgrounds. Also try sheer, colored fabrics to add a soft and airy feel to what otherwise might be a hot day.

Green and lush for summer weddings!

• Avoid flowers that wilt in the heat. Some types of lilies, such as the arum, lily, hold up well. Or, you could try a true symbol of summer — the sunflower. Whatever flowers you choose, keep the displays uncomplicated for an effortless look of beauty.

• Keeping cool during your summer wedding will be important, so look for a dress made of light materials such as silk or chiffon. Remember to get a hairstyle that will stand up to the heat, and be sure to include a wrap to match your dress for the cooler evening.

• Set the tone for your summer wedding with a Jean M wedding invitation .

Stop back tomorrow and Friday for more seasonal wedding ideas!
