An “Old Hollywood” theme to inspire you!

We’re still star-struck by the Oscars on Sunday! The lights, the glitz, the glamour — everything got us thinking of a beautiful wedding theme based on Oscar gold and classic details.

Here, we’ve put together an “Old Hollywood” theme in shades of gold, black and cream to get you inspired. Just look at all the options you have for mixing, matching and coordinating!

Old Hollywood Wedding Theme

  1. Lots of candlelight will reflect the sparkle in your eyes and mimic the glow of paparazzi flashbulbs, so use candles liberally throughout your wedding! We added a floating candle to our flared glass bowl and strung it with strands of pearls for a simple but very rich look.
  1. The envelope, please…our “Bridget” custom pocket wedding invitation is worthy of your award-winning wedding look! Choose gold shimmer paper and black ribbon to accent the black and cream pocket. Black envelopes are a dramatic touch.
  1. Make guests feel like winners by giving them gold shimmer favor boxes filled with delicious treats. Tie with “sandcastle” gold silky weave ribbon and add a feather plume for drama.
  1. The best-dressed award will go to…your favors! These cute, black tuxedo favor boxes and cream gown favor boxes are a fun and unique way to present guests with a sweet treat.  And, attach a couple pearl add-ons for an extra luxurious touch.
  1. Coordinating enclosure cards for our “Bridget” invitation will make your stationery ensemble stand out from the crowd.
  1. Pearls, pearl glaze and touches of gold accent this couple cake topper figurine — a beautiful statue of your own to remind you of your wedding for years to come!
  1. Two-piece favor boxes in glistening, gold shimmer are perfect for presenting favor goodies to your supporting cast — your guests!
  1. Help guests find their seats easily with place cards lined up at a table outside the reception entrance. Accent the table with a dramatic floral arrangement in our personalized rectangular vase — don’t be afraid to add in satin roses and feathers!
  1. For toasts worthy of your big event, choose regal glassware, like these modern flutes engraved with your monogram.
  1. Announce your winning dinner menu on stylish, black menu cards printed in gleaming, gold lettering.

11,12. When your napkins match your color scheme, they become important decorating elements. Make them perfect down to the last detail by printing them with a stylish monogram.

13. Give your walk down the red carpet — oops! we mean the aisle! — a designer touch with this ecru pleated chiffon ring pillow.  And make your guest registry elegant with the matching ecru pleated chiffon guest book and pen.

14. Look and feel like Hollywood royalty by wearing a sparkling wedding tiara for the day!

15. Our large, floral-embossed, ecru favor boxes feature a clear window in the lid to let guests see the special treats inside. The boxes are perfect for sending guests home with a special treat at the end of the reception.

A color story to inspire you: Pink and Red!

Pink and red are so pretty together — and not just for Valentine's weddings! The sweet color combination is perfect for heart-theme celebrations and romantic "I Dos" all year through.

We’ve put together a Color Story in Pink and Red to give you ideas for creating a wedding look that’s pretty and unique. Just look at all the options you have for mixing, matching and coordinating!

red and pink wedding theme

1. Start the romance the minute guests receive your invitations! Choose our “Gwen” custom layered wedding invitation in princess pink and merlot papers with damask-patterned layout JM4280. Go for the ultimate touch — print your invitations in princess pink ink, too!

2. Abundant red roses set a dramatic, lush and oh-so-romantic look for your event. Choose roses that are lighter at the base of the petal and darker red at the tips for tone-on-tone elegance. (photo by Handeland Tesoro Photography)

3. Love the look of our invitations, but want to print and assemble them yourself? Get creative with DIY wedding invitations and cardstock from Jean M. You'll find flat cards, folders, pockets and envelopes, perfect for everything from your save the date card and invitations and enclosures, to your menu cards, place cards, programs, social invitations and more!

4. Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest impact, like adding a ribbon to your place cards. Guests will feel pampered by the added touch of luxury at their place settings! Our ribbon place cards are pre-punched with holes to make it easy for you to thread with ribbon.

5. Racy, merlot red favor boxes brighten up your reception tables. Print a design that coordinates with your wedding theme on the top (in rosewood-pink foil, of course). And don’t forget the chocolates inside!

6. Fun pink matchbook favors personalized with your monogram or design in red are the perfect accompaniment to favor candles. You’ll encourage romance while coordinating with your wedding theme.

7. Bring hearts into your pink and red wedding color story for an added touch guests will love. Our heart-handled favor boxes are the perfect little accents. Personalize them with your choice of design.

8. Make your napkins a statement of your wedding style! Choose pink with red personalization, red with pink personalization, or a fun and romantic combination of both!

9. Whet guests’ appetites by printing the wedding dinner fare on eye-catching menu cards, like our round menu cards in princess pink with red ink.

Jean answers your top invitation questions

Jean M wedding invitations and accessories

I get so many questions from brides about how to make their invitations unique and perfect for their weddings. Here are my answers to the top questions you've been asking!

Q: How can I make my wedding invitation wording look more interesting?

A:  It's all in the layout you choose! You can choose left-justified or right-justified wording or a layout that incorporates a design or pattern in the wording for flair. Choose your wording layout under "Personalize Your Item" when ordering. Then choose up to two ink colors and two fonts for a unique look that matches your wedding style.

Q: I love the popular invitations you feature on your blog and website. But I want my invitation to be totally unique, something my guests have never seen before. Help!

A: The way we show invitations on our blog and website isn't necessarily the way you have to order them! If you love an invitation style we show, you can make it your own with your choice of paper color, ink color and ribbon color. You can also add a unique look with our colorful envelopes — guests will be impressed the minute they receive your invitation in the mail.

Q: It's great that you offer an unassembled option so I can save money on my invitations. But won't assembly take forever?

A: DIY brides are loving putting together their own invitations with our unassembled option. If you're worried about being overloaded, why not throw a little party and invite friends and bridesmaids over for snacks and beverages and ask their help in assembling your invitations. It will be a fun and memorable night for all of you.

Q: When should I order my invitations and how long before the wedding should I send them?

A: Your invitations should be mailed so guests receive them at least six to eight weeks before your wedding so they can make travel arrangements and plans to attend your celebration. I always recommend getting your invitations order three to four months before the wedding so you have plenty of time to assemble the invitations (if you choose the unassembled option) and address the envelopes.

Q: How do I assemble my invitations into the envelopes? Do I put the RSVP card into the RSVP envelope?

A: It can get confusing with all those pieces! Here's what I recommend: set your invitation down on, face up. Put all your enclosure cards on top of the invitation, face up. Then tuck your RSVP card into the flap of the RSVP envelope (don't put it inside the envelope) and put it on top of the other enclosure cards. Pick up this stack and slide it into the inner envelope so the front of the invitation is facing the opening. Then place the filled inner envelope into the outer envelope with the addressed side facing the opening. Easy!

enclosure cards

Q: I get what an RSVP card is, but what are "enclosures cards?"

A: Enclosures are cards filled with information for your guests and they're "enclosed" in your invitations. They can be reception cards printed with wording inviting guests, direction or accommodation cards telling guests how to get to your celebration and where to say. "Informal cards" or note folders aren't included with the invitations, but they're important things to have. Print your names on the front and use them as thank you notes after the wedding, or for correspondence anytime!

Q: How am I ever going to find time to address all these invitations?

A: While hand-addressed invitations are always personal and beautiful, we all know that it's time-consuming. That's why Jean M started our Customized Envelope Addressing Service! You just send us your guest list, and we address your inner AND outer envelopes in the font and ink color you choose. It's beautiful, economical and easy on your sanity!

Hope that helps! You can find out more information and read more FAQ here!
