Save the Date 101 – Part II

Welcome back for more great ideas and advice on sending save the date cards for your wedding!

Who’s included?

Everyone who receives a save the date card must also receive a formal wedding invitation. Plan out ahead of time if you will invite “plus ones” to the event. You should determine if guests, families or children will be welcome and make that clear on the envelope for the save the date as well as the invitation. This helps get the point across from the very beginning that kids may not be welcome or that you are asking your guest to come alone. The more times you can remind your attendees of their invitation, the less likely you will find yourself in the uncomfortable situation of accommodating unexpected guests.

What should they look like?

The beauty of a save the date is that the style, formality, colors or theme can tie into your event, but it can also be completely different to show off your hobbies and passions. If you and your fiancé have a love of theme parks but that pastime just isn’t appropriate for your black tie affair, take this time to theme your save the date, show a little personality and later structure your invitation to announce the formality of the event. If you are hosting a destination wedding, let guests know by sending a save the date card with a tropical design. Examples:

A tropical flower save the date card is perfect for introducing your destination wedding!Set the tone for your tropical wedding with the beautiful flowers on my Polynesian Garden Photo Save the Date Card.

Make guests smile with the tandem bicycle design on this save the date cardLet everyone know you’ll sweet on a bicycle built for two with the cute tandem bicycle design on my Tandem Hearts Save the Date.

For a fun touch, include an object that relates to your wedding with your save the dates, like an ornament personalized with your names, date and wedding location for a holiday wedding.

True to tradition

If you want to keep with tradition, only print your names, the date of your event, and the city and state (or country) in which your event will take place. Make a note on the save the date card that a formal invitation will follow so guests know to watch for it in the mail at a later date.

Are you ready to send your save the dates now? Great! Find the perfect save the date card for your wedding today!

Save the Date 101 – Part I

Sending save the dates is a sure way to generate excitement for your upcoming wedding day and to get guests prepared to celebrate with you. Here’s what you should know before sending yours!

What do they do?

Save the dates are the preliminary announcement of your event. They are a nice way to let your guests know about your wedding date and location ahead of time so they can mark their calendars and start getting ready to attend your celebration. You can even give a hint of your wedding theme and style with the design of the save the date card you choose! Check out these examples:

Introduce your wedding’s formality and wedding colors with your save the date cardLet guests know you’re having a formal wedding with modern flair by sending my Wedding Wear Save the Date in orchid.

Send a unique save the date magnet to get your wedding date noticed!Get your date noticed and introduce your spring wedding or flower wedding theme with my Blossom Border Photo Save the Date Magnet in margarita green.

Destination weddings

If you are hosting a destination wedding or you have a lot of out of town guests, or your event falls on or near a holiday, it’s especially important to send save the dates. The reason for this is to allow travelers to save up for expenses, book cheaper travel, block rooms before they are unavailable, and plan their schedules around an entire weekend or extended weekend instead of just one evening out.

When to send

Typically save the date cards are sent out between six months and a year before the wedding. You do not have to have all your details locked into place when they go out, but be sure you’ve set your date, location and set aside room blocks for your guests’ accommodations. You can include travel agent and hotel information on a separate card sent with your announcement or you can refer guests to your wedding website for all travel information and assistance. The goal is to make it easy for them to attend, so the more information you provide on your save the date card and your wedding website, the better.
